Storm Defeated by Panthers

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today by Ohio Dominican University, 73-63. 

After the Panthers scored the first bucket of the game the Storm responded with a 7-0 run and took a 7-2 advantage.  The run was started when Carlye Garst (Salem, Va. / Salem) hit a three pointer.  The Panthers battled back and took an 11-9 lead at the media timeout.  Both teams continued to battle and the Storm entered the second quarter trailing 13-12.     

The Panthers opened the second quarter on a 10-2 run and opened a 23-14 lead.  The run was ended when Brianna Shagovac (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst Steele) hit a pair of foul shots to make the score, 23-16.  The Storm battled for the remainder of the half but were unable to cut into the Ohio Dominican lead, and entered the half trailing 34-23.  At the intermission the Storm was led by their post players.  Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) had four points, and two steals in the half, and Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) had three rebounds, two steals, and two points.   

The third quarter started as a defensive battle, in which the Storm was able to cut the Panthers lead to 45-34 at the media timeout.  The Panthers regained their double digit lead after the timeout and entered the fourth quarter ahead 53-38. 

The Storm went on an early fourth quarter run and cut the Panthers lead to single digits as Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) was fouled on a three point attempt and made all three foul shots.  The Storm entered the media timeout behind 64-52.  The Storm was unable to muster a run, and the Panther held on to win, 73-63.    

The Storm was led by Dawson as she had 15 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Gabor added 12 points, four assists, and four steals.  Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) pitched in with nine points, and three assists.

Lake Erie will be back in action Monday (February 1st) when they host third ranked Ashland University at 5:30 P.M.
