Storm Victorious Over Alderson-Broaddus, 3-1

PAINESVILLE, Ohio— The Lake Erie College volleyball team opened the home portion of their 2015 schedule against Alderson-Broaddus University, downing the Battlers in four sets Tuesday (Sept. 15).

The Storm won the sets 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-13.

The teams matched each other early on before the Storm rallied for a 7-3 lead.  After a timeout, the Battlers tied it at nine.  After tying it, the Battlers scored four straight, leading to a Storm timeout.  The Storm fought back, bringing the score to within three, 22-19.  After a Battlers timeout, the Storm tied it at 22.  They Storm won the last three points to capture the set.  Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio/Fairfield) served the final six points of the set.

The Storm gained a 4-2 lead early on in the second set.  The Storm maintained their lead following a timeout, growing the lead to 14-9.  Controlling the flow of the set, the Storm eased their way into a 25-16 set win.

The third set opened with the Storm gaining a 3-0 advantage.  The Battlers fought back, taking an 8-5 lead.  The Storm matched the Battlers, gaining an 11-9 lead.  Following an Alderson-Broaddus timeout, the Battlers regained the lead.  Trailing 20-15, the Storm called a timeout.  The Storm rallied but it was not enough as they fell in the third set, 25-22.

Similar to the third, the Storm won the first three points of the fourth set.  The Storm quickly extended the lead to 11-4.  The Battlers fought back, bringing the lead down to two but the Storm rallied to extend the lead to five once again.  Following a Battlers timeout, the Storm continued their strong run, winning the fourth set 25-13 to win the match.

Offensively the Storm was led by Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio/Dalton), Crystal Kedroske, Madison Russell (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) who each had double digit kills with 15, 11, and 10 respectively. Defensively the Storm was led by Kedroske and Britteny Levkulich (Perry, Ohio/Perry) who had 32 and 19 digs respectively.

The Storm opens up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play Friday at home against Hillsdale College.
