Storm Falls to Daemen College

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today by Daemen College, 69-65.  With the loss the Storm falls to 2-2 overall and with the win the Wildcats improve to 2-1 overall.   

The Storm opened the game on a 13-3 run that was highlighted by Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) as she had six of the 13 points and a steal.   The run was halted by the Wildcats when they made a jumper with 6:03 remaining in the first quarter, and the Storm led 13-5.  Daemen ended the first quarter with a 13-4 run that gave the Wildcats a 19-17 advantage entering the second quarter. 

The second quarter was a back and forth battle that saw the Wildcats take a 29-24 lead at the media timeout. The Storm continued to play well for the remainder of the half, but entered intermission trailing 37-32.  At the half the Storm was led by Gabor and Shelby Carpenter (New Lebanon, Ohio / Miami Valley) who each had double digit points with 13 and 10 respectively.  As a team the Storm forced 11 turnovers and had seven steals. 

Early in the third quarter the Storm went on a 5-0 run that propelled them to a 44-42 lead, and the run was highlighted by a Carpenter three pointer. The Storm entered the media timeout tied 47-47.  Both teams continued to battle, and the Wildcats took a 56-53 lead in the final quarter.    

After the Wildcats scored the opening bucket of the fourth quarter the Storm went on a 6-0 run, that gave the Storm a 59-58 advantage.  The run was highlighted by Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) who had two steals and a layup during the run.  The remainder of the game was a back and forth battle with the Wildcats taking the win, 69-65.

The Storm was led by Gabor and Carpenter who each had 22 points. Daija Jones (Cleveland, Ohio / St. Joseph Academy) added seven points and six rebounds for the Storm.  Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) pitched in with seven rebounds and a steal in the game for the Storm. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (November 28th) when they travel to take on Ohio Valley at 2 P.M.
