Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College volleyball team faced 21st-ranked Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Grand Valley State University Friday (Oct. 9), falling in straight sets.
The Lakers won the sets 25-18, 25-10 and 25-16.
The Lakers jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, with the Storm calling a timeout trailing 12-4. The Storm brought the score within four points during the set but it was not enough to overcome the deficit as the Lakers took the set 25-18.
Leondra Barrett (Chattanooga, Tenn./Ooltewah) led the Storm with three kills and two blocks. Crystal Kedroske (Dexter Mich./Dexter) led Lake Erie with seven digs while Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio/Farifield) and Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich./Saline) had six apiece.
Once again, the Lakers got out to a fast start, taking a 10-4 lead in the second set. The Storm called a timeout but they failed to halt the Grand Valley momentum as they fell 25-10.
Barrett led the Storm once again with three kills while Fletcher had five digs.
The Storm took an early lead in the third set but the Lakers went on a run to take a 9-6 lead. The Lakers continued to control the momentum throughout the set to wrap-up the match, 25-16.
Barrett ended the night with eight kills and three blocks. Madison Russell (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) had four kills while Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio/Dalton) and Kedroske had three apiece. Fletcher had a team-high 12 digs while Kedroske and Thomas had 10 apiece.
The Storm is back in action Saturday (Oct. 10) against Ferris State University.
