Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team scored a golden goal and defeat Wheeling Jesuit University 2-1 in double overtime Saturday (Sept. 9).
In the first half, the Storm opened the scoring when sophomore forward Elizabeh Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) scored off of a throw in from freshman Deanna Hill (Troy, Mich. / Avondale), marking the first goal and assist for each player respectively.
In the second half Wheeling Jesuit forward Nikki Hillard netted the equalizing goal to make the score 1-1.
The first overtime period was scoreless. The winning goal was scored by freshman forward Kynslie Murphy (Parma, Ohio / Valley Forge), marking Murphy's first goal of the season and her career. The goal was assisted by Awuah.
In net for the Storm was senior Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford), who made two saves and allowed one goal. Lake Erie College out shot Wheeling Jesuit, 14-4, and also won the corner kick battle, 13-3.
The Storm is back in action on Friday September 12th at 11 A.M. when the take on Daemen College.
