Storm Open Season With a Draw Against Slippery Rock

PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team opened their 2013 season with a nonconference, scoreless draw against Slippery Rock University in double-overtime on Thursday (Sept. 5) in Painesville. 

The Storm (0-0-1) recorded 10 shots in the first-half but were unable to find the back of the net. Junior Sam Etherton (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) made three saves in the opening half on six Slippery Rock (0-0-1) shots. In the second half, The Rockl outshot the Storm 10-6 but once again, neither team was able to convert.

With less than a minute remaining in the second overtime session, the Storm nearly broke the scoreless game but Alfred Majer's (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) shot hit the side of the net and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. 

Etherton ended the game with eight saves. Anthony Novak (Toronto, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) and Majer ended the game with four shots apiece.

The Storm is back on the pitch Sunday (Sept. 8) to face Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa.
