Storm Men Pick Up Two Wins, but Fall at Malone 7-2

GREEN, OHIO – The Lake Erie College men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision on the road to Malone University Friday afternoon (March 22). The Storm picked up wins at first singles and second doubles in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

Freshman Liam Goldberg (Melbourne, Australia/Haileyburg College) remained undefeated at first singles, moving to 8-0 overall (3-0 GLIAC) with a 6-6, 6-3 win over Youssef Sonbaty. 

The Pioneers (8-8, 1-2 GLIAC) won the five remaining singles matches, though freshman Luke Hobbs (Yarm, England/Conyers School) put up quite the fight at fifth singles before dropping a heart-breaker 7-6, 7-6, to Steffan Dwarkaisngh.  Sophomore Dimitrije Spasic (Nis, Serbia/Gimnazija Stevan Sremac/Coos Bay [Ore]) went to three sets before falling to Andrew Hill, 6-1, 6-7, 1-0.

Hobbs teamed with junior Kyle O'Dell (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) for a 9-7 win at second doubles for the Storm (1-7, 0-3 GLIAC).

Lake Erie's next match will be Friday, March 29, at home against Ferris State University.
