Storm Takes Set But Falls on Road to Panthers

COLUMBUS, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College volleyball team fell on the road to Great lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Ohio Dominican University (25-15, 25-16, 18-25,25-20) Friday evening (Nov. 8).

The Storm took a 6-2 lead to start the opening set but the Panthers recovered to take the set 25-15. Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin), Sara Aultz (Wooster, Ohio/Orrville) and Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) had two kills apiece for the Storm. Alexis Bankson (Churulousco, Ind./Churubusco) had three digs. 

The two teams were even in the early portions of the second set until the Panthers pulled ahead 17-14. Following a Lake Erie timeout, Ohio Dominican went on a 8-2 run to close out the set. Walter led the Storm with four kills in the set.

The Storm responded by taking an 8-2 lead early in the third. The Storm continued to pressure Ohio Dominican and found a set point at 24-18, winning it on a Panther error to cut the match score to 2-1. Molly Richardson led the Storm with four kills in the set while Hoppe had four digs. 

The teams exchanged points in the fourth until Ohio Dominican started to pull ahead and forcing Lake Erie to call a timeout at 13-10. Following the timeout, the Panthers went on a 4-1 run before the Storm scored five straight to come within one. After Ohio Domincan rattled off three straight points, the Storm once again came within one point of the Panthers but ultimately closed out the match with a 25-20. 

Walter ended the game with a team-high 13 kills while Aultz had 10. Kathryn Ferry (Lima, Ohio/Lima Central Catholic) had a game-high 23 digs. Hoppe added seven kills and 11 digs. 

Ohio Dominican was led by Baily Barker and Jackie Oestreich, who had eight kills apiece. 

The Storm are back on the court tomorrow, traveling to Tiffin University.
