Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio— The Lake Erie College volleyball team was able to pick up the win on Senior Day Saturday (Nov. 2), falling in straight sets (25-15, 26-24, 25-23) to Walsh University.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the opening set before the Storm called a timeout. The timeout failed to halt Walsh's momentum, as they took the first set 25-15.
Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) and Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) had two kills apiece for the Storm while Alexis Bankson (Churulousco, Ind./Churubusco) had three digs.
Walsh's momentum carried over to the second set as they took an early 6-2 lead but the Storm rallied and tied the set at eight. After alternating points, the Cavaliers pulled ahead, 14-11. Following a timeout, the Storm went on a 6-3 run to tie the set at 17. After a Walsh timeout, the Storm built their biggest lead of the set at 23-20. After their second timeout, the Cavaliers went on a 3-0 run to tie the game. The Storm won the next point but failed on the ensuing set-point as Walsh won the next two points to close out the set.
Richardson and Walter had four kills apiece in the set while Sara Aultz (Wooster, Ohio/Orrville) added three. Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) had three digs.
Trailing by two sets, the Storm took control early in the third set, taking a 7-3 lead but the Cavaliers went on a 4-0 run to tie the set at seven. The teams exchanged points until the Storm pulled ahead 14-11. The Cavaliers were able to recover and tie the set back up at 17. The Storm took a slight 23-22 advantage but Walsh won the following three points to close out the match.
Walter led the Storm with 10 kills for the match while Richardson ended with nine. Hoppe had a team-high nine digs while Andrea Harris (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) had eight. Kristin Swann (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) had a pair of kills and digs.
Paige Chandler had 16 kills and 14 digs to lead Walsh.
The Storm conclude their current three-game home stand Tuesday (Nov. 5), hosting Ashland University.
