Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio— The Lake Erie College women's volleyball was unable to overcome Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Malone University, falling in straight sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-13) Friday (Nov. 1).
The Pioneers opened the match on an 8-2 run. Following a Storm timeout, Malone continued to steadily increase their lead. Up 15-9, the Storm won two competitive points in a row, bringing the game to 15-11. The Storm chipped away at the Malone lead, forcing a timeout with the score at 17-15. Following the break, Malone regained their footing and closed out the set 25-20.
Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) led the Storm with three kills in the opening set. Kathryn Ferry (Lima, Ohio/Lima Central Catholic) had three digs.
Malone jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second set. The Pioneers maintained a steady lead throughout the fast paced set, picking up the set win, 25-17.
Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) led Lake Erie with five kills in the second set.
Malone started the third set on a 5-0 run. Trailing 12-3, the Storm went on a 6-3 run to cut the Pioneer lead to 15-9 but the run was not enough as the Pioneers wrapped up the match with a 25-13 third set win.
Walter led the Storm with 11 kills in the match. Ferry led with eight digs while Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) and Walter had seven apiece.
Taylor Slauterbeck recorded 15 kills and Katie Hasebein had 14 digs to lead the Pioneers.
The Storm is back at home Saturday (Nov. 2) for a senior day match with Walsh University.
