Hillsdale Charges Past Storm

HILLSDALE, Mich.-- The Lake Erie College volleyball team held tough but were unable to come away with a win on the road against Hillsdale College Friday (Oct. 18) falling in straight sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-17) in a Great Lakes Intercolelgiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup. 

Hillsdale charged out of the gate in set one, taking an 11-2 lead en route to a 25-17 set win.

 In the second set, the two teams exchanged points throughout the early portions but tied at five, the Chargers squeaked ahead and took found themselves with an 18-13 advantage. The Storm went on a 6-2 run to bring the game within one at 20-19 but the Chargers finished the set on a 5-1 run. 

The Storm found a 6-5 lead early in the third set but the Chargers went on a 5-0 run to jump ahead 10-6. Lake Erie brough the game within one at 13-12 but once again, the Chargers fired back and closed out the set, and the match, 25-17. 

Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) and Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) led the Storm with nine kills apiece. Jamie Riley (Prospect, Ohio/Olentangy) led the Storm with eight digs while Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) had six. 

Jenalle Bearman led the Chargers with 11 kills while Sydney Lenhart had 11 digs.

The Storm continue on the road Saturday (Oct. 19) to face Northwood University.
