Visiting Lakers Upend Storm in Three Sets

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- Looking for a second straight home and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory, the Lake Erie College volleyball team fell short in its match against 21st-ranked Grand Valley State Friday night (Oct. 11), falling in three sets at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center.

The Lakers (13-3, 7-1 GLIAC) jumped out early and cruised to a 25-10 win in the opening set before holding off a spirited Lake Erie (1-12, 1-7 GLIAC) rally in set two for a 25-20 win. Grand Valley again raced out early in set three before clinching the match by a 25-16 score.

The Storm offense was paced by eight kills from senior Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger)  and six kills from redshirt senior Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin). Defensively senior Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) and sophomore Kathryn Ferry (Lima, Ohio/Lima Central Catholic) had eight digs apiece.

Josie Werner had eight kills and did not commit a hitting error to lead the Lakers, who won their third in a row. Kaitlyn Wolters had 25 assists while two players had nine digs.

The Storm is back on the court Saturday, Oct. 12, hosting Ferris State University at 5 p.m.
