Storm Drop Home Match Against 20th-Ranked Saginaw Valley State

PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College men's soccer team (2-5, 1-3 GLIAC) were unable to come away with a victory against 20th-ranked Saginaw Valley State University (6-1, 3-1 GLIAC) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up Friday (Sept. 21) at the Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville.

The Cardinals cracked the scoreboard early in the first half, when Zach Myers scored off a his own rebound on Storm Goalkeeper Sam Etherton (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) to put Saginaw Valley up 1-0 six minutes into the match. The Storm played the final 29 minutes of the match down a man, when Willy Cognee (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) received a red card. Lachlan Savage increased the Cardinal lead to 2-0 on a penalty kick in the 71st minute. Myers connected on his second goal of the contest a minute later to make it 3-0. Following a second Lake Erie red card, this time to sophomore James Grogan (Leeds, England/Averett University), Mitch Reinhart recorded the third goal of the half for the Cardinals, cementing a 4-0 win.

 The Storm return to the pitch Sunday (Sept. 23) at GLIAC newcomer Malone University in Canton, Ohio at 1 p.m.
