Volleyball Stopped in Three Sets At Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College women's volleyball team (1-5, 0-2 GLIAC) came up short against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent, University of Findlay (4-5, 1-1 GLIAC), 3-0, at the Croy Gymnasium in Findlay, Ohio Saturday (Sept. 15). The Oilers won the match 26-24, 25-20, 25-16.

The two teams exchanged points early in the first set until Findlay gained the upper hand, jumping out to a 20-12 advantage. The Storm fought their way back into the set. Sophomore Sara Aultz (Wooster, Ohio/Orrville) tallied four kills for Lake Erie during a 12-4 run to take a 24-23 lead in set one. The Oilers responded with kills from Samantha Granger and Mackenzie Vorst to regain the lead at 25-24. After a Lake Erie timeout, Jacqui Endre secured the set one victory for Findlay with a service ace.

The Oilers took an early lead in the second set and did not look back. Trailing 21-13, the Storm attempted to mount a comeback, but it was not enough, as the Oilers took set two 25-20.

Lake Erie kept pace with Findlay early in the third set. The Storm trailed the Oilers 10-9, when the Oilers went on a 10-5 run to increase the lead to 20-15. Findlay surrendered only one more point to the Storm, to capture set three 25-16, and a 3-0 match win.

Aultz, Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger), and Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) tallied eight kills a piece for the Storm. Sophomore Samantha Knepley (Munith, Mich./Stockbridge) recorded assists, and senior Rachel Ritt (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) led the Storm with nine kills.

The Storm will wrap-up its current road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 18th, at cross-town foe Notre Dame College (2-7). The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start at the Keller Center in South Euclid, Ohio.
