Storm Women Fall to Edinboro at Gannon Labor Day Tournament

Box Score

ERIE, PA. – Edinboro University jumped out to a 3-0 first-half lead en route to a 5-1 win over the Lake Erie College women's soccer team Saturday (Sept. 1) at Gannon University Field as part of the Gannon Labor Day Tournament.

Senior Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North), who missed most of last season with a knee injury, scored in the game's 60th minute for the Storm's (0-2) first goal of the season.

Jansen Hartmann scored off a free kick pass just 11:13 in the contest for the match's first score.  Liz Debo followed 10 minutes later off a cross and confusion in the Storm's defensive end resulted in an own goal and a 3-0 Edinboro (2-0) lead at halftime.

Debo scored early in the second half to make it 4-0 before Holland broke through for Lake Erie with a shot to the left of Fighting Scots' goalkeeper Meghan Kelly.

Karissa Fernandez, who assisted on a goal earlier in the game, scored one of her own with just over four minutes left for the game's final tally.

The Scots held a 16-8 edge in shots and Kelly was credited with five saves. Junior Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Az./Cactus Shadows) and sophomore Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) combined to make eight saves.

The Storm will look to pick up its first win of the season on Thursday, Sept. 6, in a nonconference match at Seton Hill University.
