Eagles Flock Over Storm In Straight Sets

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College (2-8, 1-7 GLIAC) was unable to withstand the attack of the conference frontrunner Ashland University (9-3, 7-1), as it fell, 3-0, in Ashland, Ohio.

The Eagles took the match by a count of 25-14, 27-25, 25-11.

Leading the Storm attack was sophomore Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) and freshman Destiny Prusky (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) with four kills each.

In the first set, Ashland jumped out to a 7-1 lead.  The Storm was competitive from there out but could not cut the gap in the set.

The second set was far more competitive.  With Ashland ahead 19-16, freshman Jamie Hoppe's (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) serve led Lake Erie to five straight points and a 21-19 lead.  A Richardson kill put the Storm up 23-21 and the Storm served for the set twice at 24-23 and 25-24 after a Prusky kill.  However, three straight points closed out the set for the Eagles.

Deflated, Lake Erie was unable to mount a charge in game three falling 25-11.

The Storm has an extended layoff until next Friday as they start Taking Breast Cancer by Storm weekend with a 7:00 p.m. match against Ferris State University.
