Season Opening Setback for Women's Soccer at Walsh

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, OHIO - The Lake Erie College women's soccer team (0-1) was unable to prevail in the first game of the head coaching career of Jamie Shadd, falling 3-0 to Walsh University (1-0) at Milazzo Field in North Canton, Ohio.

Each team booted 13 shots and Lake Erie held a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal but it was the Cavaliers blasts which found the back of the net.

Returning 10 starters and 21 letterwinners from last season, the experienced Walsh squad jumped on Lake Erie quickly with a Rachel Rucker scoring a breakaway goal in the third minute. The Storm had several strong chances to answer back but each was just off the mark including a shot off the crossbar.

Malone's Lauren Frank gave the Cavaliers some breathing room in the 68th minutes and Gina Pinzone scored the final insurance goal in the 88th minute.

In goal for the Storm, sophomore Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) made four saves.

Lake Erie will look to rebound in its home opener Sunday, with a 2:00 p.m. contest against the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.
