Storm Stays Competitive Against #9 Ferris St.

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The start of Lake Erie College's Taking Breast Cancer by Storm campaign was spoiled on the court as ninth-ranked Ferris State University (14-1, 10-1 GLIAC) defeated Lake Erie (2-9, 1-8 GLIAC) in three sets.

The Bulldogs took the match by a count of 25-17. 25-13, 25-11.

Inspired by Carla Raguz, a local high school volleyball coach and recovering breast cancer survivor, Lake Erie played a strong first set against the conference leader.  After falling behind 8-1 early, the Storm surged to take a 13-11 advantage with a nice service run from sophomore Kristin Swann (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) helping the cause.  Ferris State tied the set at 15-15 and pushed ahead for the 25-17 victory.  The Bulldogs had found their grove and were on their way to the three-set win.

Lake Erie's attack was led by sophomore Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) with seven kills.  It was also a nice hitting performance from freshman Destiny Prusky (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) with four kills, no errors and a .400 hitting percentage.  Senior Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) was the point player for the Storm offense with 15 assists.

Ferris State held a big .219 to -.041 advantage for the match.

The Storm returns to action tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. home match against Saginaw Valley State University.
