Storm Fall In Five Sets With Swann, Hoppe Stepping Up

PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Lake Erie College (2-13) was led by strong individual performances from its hitter but fell in a five-set match against William Jewell University (10-7) at the first day for the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover in Aurora, Ill. 

The Storm fell by a count of 25-13, 22-25, 15-17, 22-25, 15-9. 

It was a career-high day for a pair of Storm attackers – sophomores Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) and Kristin Swann (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester). Hoppe had 16 kills, with just five errors and a .262 hitting percentage.  Swann hit even strong – a .458 percentage – with 12 kills and just a single error.  Junior Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) had a season-high 14 kills as Lake Erie hit .175 as a team.  Hannah Herdon led William Jewell with 20 kills.

The Lake Erie attack was directed by senior Krista O'Connor who blew away her previous season-high of 17 assists, with 28.  Junior libero Paige Baldauf (Marion, Ohio/Marion Pleasant) set a new career-high as well with 27 digs.  Hoppe and sophomore Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) each reached double-digit digs as well with 11 and 10, respectively. 

Lake Erie continues at the final day of the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover tomorrow with a pair of matches.
