Box Score On a blistery day in Painesville, Ashland University (2-0)
fought through the Storm and secured a 3-0 victory over Lake Erie
College (1-1) at Slattery Field.
In the first half, the Eagles used the wind to their advantage
as they barraged shots towards Lake Erie junior goalkeeper Chelsea
Giesen. Giesen handled the first 14 shots of the half,
with eight saves, but the 15th and final attempt by
Alicia VanZanten found the back of the net in the 41st
minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage at the break.
Ashland continued to push the pace in the second half and after
several close chances, put its second goal on the board in the
67th minute when Jamie Greene scored from 15 yards out
on the right side after a ball from Ashley Dragos. Eight minutes
later, the Eagles pushed their advantage to 3-0 as Tani Lopez
headed in a great cross from Maria Lackey.
The Eagles won the battle of shots, 26-6, while each team
attempted five corner kicks.
Giesen finished the contest with 10 saves.
The Storm are in action next on Friday Sept. 10 when they travel
to take on Findlay at 2:00 p.m.
