Men's Soccer Falls to Ashland, 2-0

The bounces fell Ashland University's way in a 2-0 win over Lake Erie College in the GLIAC opener at Slattery Field in Painesville, Ohio.

The Eagles moved to 2-0 as they look to defend their 2009 conference championship, while the Storm fell to 0-3.

In the first half, Ashland scored the lone goal in the 23rd minute as Tom Rankin put home a ball sent into the box from midfield by James Livingston.

The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute when Louis Clark scored off a free kick tapped by Livingston just outside the box.  The Storm's best chance came midway through the second half when senior defender Justin Mihaly (Lowellville, Ohio/Ursuline) hit the crossbar from 30 yards out.

In goal for Lake Erie, sophomore Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) made seven saves.

Ashland won the battle of shots, 18-5, while each team attempted three corner kicks.

The Storm are in action next on Friday Sept. 10 when they travel to take on Findlay at 4:30 p.m.
