Box Score 2 PAINESVILLE, OHIO – For the second straight day, the Lake
Erie College volleyball team split two matches at the Davis &
Elkins College Spikefest in Elkins, W. Va., knocking off Ohio
Valley University and falling to host Davis and Elkins on Saturday
(Sept. 4).
After losing the opening set to Ohio Valley, the Storm (2-2)
responded by winning the next three to close out the match
(23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18). Sophomore Mary Walter
(Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) led the offense with 13
kills and eight aces while freshman Liz Whiddon (Saline,
Mich./Saline) had nine kills and fellow first-year hitter Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) added eight. Junior
Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) had a
team-high 15 assists. Senior Lauren Johnson (Wellington,
Ohio/Keystone) had 14 digs on defense while Hoppe had 13 and Walter
10.
Against the host Senators, Walter again led the team in kills
with eight to go along with six aces. Junior Michelle Naab
(North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) had seven kills while three
other Storm had six. Johnson had a season-high 29 digs and
junior Lauren Bogatay (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) had 16 assists in the
18-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22 setback.
The Storm returns to the court on Tuesday night, Sept. 7, on the
road at traditional non-conference fore Notre Dame College.
