Naab (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) and freshman Jamie
Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) the Lake Erie College
volleyball team moved above .500 on the season with a 3-2 victory
at traditional non-conference rival Notre Dame College Tuesday
night (Sept. 7) in South Euclid, Ohio.
Naab had a season-high nine kills and assisted on three
blocks while Hoppe had personal highs with 15 kills and 12 digs to
lead the Storm (3-2) attack. Lake Erie had 47 kills in
the match, including 14 service aces, in snapping a seven-match
losing streak against the Falcons (1-9).
Naab's high school teammate, junior Krista
O'Connor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) led the team
with 28 assists while fellow junior setter Lauren
Bogatay (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) added 20.
Notre Dame took the first set 25-21, but Lake Erie
immediately responded by taking the next two, 25-18 and
25-20. The Storm was unable to close it out in four as the
Falcons forced a decisive set with a 25-20 win. Lake Erie won
the final set by scoring the final four points in a 15-11
frame.
Semior defensive specialist Lauren
Johnson (Wellington, Ohio/Keystone) had 27 of the team's 88
digs.
Kari Kincannon had 15 kills to lead the Falcons. Taylor Pugliese
had 41 assists and Cristin Brown added 21 digs.
The Storm continues its season-opening 10-game road trip as it
opens conference play in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (GLIAC) this weekend when it travels to Wayne State
University on Friday (Sept. 10) before playing at the
University of Findlay Saturday (Sept. 11) and Hillsdale College on
Sunday (Sept. 12).
