Lake Erie College dealt with windy and rainy conditions on a
stormy night in North Canton, Ohio and earned its first victory of
the season, 3-2, over NAIA Walsh University. Junior forward
Marco
Gaudio (Cambridge, England/Impington Village College) scored
two goals in the victory.
The Storm improved to 1-8 overall on the season while the
Cavaliers fell to 5-4 overall.
Walsh wasted no time getting on the board as Ben Truax scored
just 1:24 into the contest. Lake Erie bided its time and tied
the game in the 25th minute as freshman Nathan Bias
(Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) scored off a pass from senior
defender David
Traffis (Parma, Ohio/Parma Senior). Gaudio got his first
goal less than four minutes later via an assist from senior
midfielder Alex Royko
(Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) and the Storm took a 2-1
advantage to the break.
The Cardinals tied the game again in the 60th minute
when Truax scored his second goal of the game but Gaudio was not to
be outdone as his unassisted goal in the 73rd minute was
the game winner.
Walsh won the battle of shots, 14-6, and corner kicks, 15-3, but
Lake Erie made the most of its opportunities.
In goal for Lake Erie, sophomore Ricky
Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) made 12
saves.
Lake Erie is in action next when it returns home from a six-game
road swing on Friday, Oct. 1 when it hosts Saginaw Valley
State. First touch is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Jack Britt
Memorial Stadium.
