Box Score PAINESVILLE, OHIO - The Lake Erie College men's basketball team
didn't need late-game heroics this time against Ohio Dominican as
the Storm ran its season-long winning streak to five games with a
78-64 victory at Alumni Hall in Columbus on Saturday (Feb. 20).
Four players scored in double figures for the Storm (11-15), who
beat the Panthers 68-66 on Jan. 30 with a basket with less than one
second remaining.
There would do no need for dramatics this time as Lake Erie
jumped out to a 10-point lead mid-way through the first half. After
taking a seven-point lead into halftime, the Storm's advantage was
cut to three at 43-40 with 17:41 left. But a 20-6 run over the next
nine minutes put the game firmly in control.
Junior guard Ethan Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio/Harmony Prep) led
the way with 17 points, connecting on three three-pointers.
Freshman center Garrick Sims (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) scored 15
and grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Matt Grendel (Independence, Ohio/Independence) added 13 - his third
straight game in double figures - and freshman Eric Worthey (South
Euclid, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) chipped in with 12
points off the bench.
Lake Erie shot a season-best 59.6 percent (31-of-52) from the
field, while holding Ohio Dominican (8-16) to just 39.3% (24-of-61)
and forcing 15 turnovers.
Sonny Stattmiller led Ohio Dominican with 13 points.
Lake Erie's five-game winning streak is the longest since the
2007-08 team had streaks of five and seven games. The Storm closes
the regular season on Monday night, Feb. 22, against 11th-ranked
Indiana University (Pa.) at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic
& Wellness Center in Painesville. Tip-off is set for 7p.m.
