Lake Erie College (2-10-1, 0-10 GLIAC) led at halftime against
GLIAC foe Saginaw Valley State University (8-4-2, 4-3-2 GLIAC) but
could not hold on and fell, 2-1, in overtime in University Center,
Mich.
Lake Erie scored its goal in the 32nd minute when
senior midfielder Justin
Mihaly (Lowellville, Ohio/Ursuline) found junior forward Marco
Gaudio (Cambridge, England/Impington Village College) for the
score. The goal was the team-high sixth of the year for
Gaudio.
In the second half, SVSU's Morley Burns scored in the 54th
minute with the assist coming from Noah Sawyer. The
score stayed at 1-1 after regulation but just four minutes into
overtime, Burns found Anthony Palazzolo for the game winner.
Lake Erie was outshot 15-8 in the contest but put more shots on
goal than the Cardinals (5-4).
After making 16 or more saves the past two games, sophomore
goalie Rick Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) made
two against SVSU.
The Storm continues their road trip with a 2:30 match at
Northwood University on Sunday.
