Hoppe and Kunar Not Enough for Storm in Loss at Saginaw Valley

PAINESVILLE, OHIO --Freshman Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) had six kills and sophomore Nicole Kunar (Northfield Center, Ohio/Nordonia) added four, but the rest of the Lake Erie College volleyball team combined for just nine more in a 3-0 loss at Saginaw Valley State University on Sunday (Oct. 10). 

The Cardinals (7-8, 5-6 GLIAC) outhit the Storm .272-.053 in picking up the 25-18, 25-18, 25-12 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win.

Lake Erie (3-15, 0-11 GLIAC) trailed just 18-16 in the first set, but Saginaw Valley closed out the frame with a 7-2 spurt.  In set two, the Storm trailed by nine points, but a late rally cut it to 23-17 before the Cardinals got the final two points.  In the third set, Saginaw Valey jumped out to a 14-3 lead and cruised.

Annie Buxton had 10 kills to lead SVSU, while three others had at least six.

The Storm will step out of league play next weekend, pariticipating in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament in Aurora, Ill., Oct.15-16.
