Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Freshman Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington,
Ohio/Pickerington North) unleashed a hat trick and freshman Taylor Yurick (Olmstead Falls, Ohio/Olmstead Falls) totaled two assists as
the Lake Erie women's soccer team routed Ohio Valley University,
5-0, on Saturday (Sept. 26).
Holland netted her first goal just 66 seconds into the game to
set the tone on a chilly and dreary afternoon at Slattery Field.
The goal came from Yurick's assist.
The freshman struck again in the 31st minute, picking
up a breakaway off a tipped pass from senior Emma Hoskins
(Fairfield, Ohio/McAuley). Holland finished from 12 yards out to
beat OVU keeper Abbi Menear, who was charging on the breakaway.
The Storm extended its lead to 3-0 in the 39th minute
as freshman Valerie Urbanik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North
Ridgeville) found a seam in the backline and finished from 12
yards.
Sophomore Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley), who
faced no shots as the goalkeeper in the first half, moved to
striker in the second half and scored her second goal of the season
in the 71st minute off Yurick's second assist.
Holland polished off the scoring and her first career hat trick
with a goal off a rebound in the 76th minute. The rookie
now has a team-leading six goals on the season. Freshman
keeper Jaimie Nelson (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas) faced only one
shot in the second half, picking up the Storm's only save of the
afternoon.
Lake Erie (3-4-2) out-shot the Fighting Scots (1-9), 23-1, and
won the advantage in corner kicks, 16-1.
The game ended a six-game homestand for the Storm and the team
will hit the road on Wednesday (Sept. 30) for a game at Waynesburg
at 6:30 p.m.
