Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Three second-half goals by Davis and Elkins
sent the Lake Erie men's soccer team to its fifth straight defeat
to start the season, 4-2, on Saturday (Sept. 12) afternoon.
The Senators (3-1) took the early lead in the first half on a
goal by James Kpainay in the 22nd minute.
The Storm (0-5) were able to counter in the 43rd minute as junior
Scott Stucky (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon) banged a goal off the right
post off a feed from freshman forward Rob Searles (Chardon,
Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin).
Lake Erie picked up that goal while playing with just 10 men. Four
players (two from each team) picked up yellow cards within a
three-minute span in the first half. In the 28th minute, Ajok Abair
(Kenya/Gateway (Col.)) was sent off with his second yellow
card.
The Senators put the game away just after halftime as the Storm
began to wear down. Davis and Elkins scored three times in the
first 20 minutes of the second half to take a 4-1 advantage.
The Storm, though, continued to attack, adding its second goal with
4:30 to play. Senior Justin Rraya (Parma, Ohio/Normandy) redirected
senior Jacob Drake's (Streetsboro, Ohio/Crestwood) shot into the
net and cut the lead to 4-2.
Despite playing a man down for much of the match, the Storm still
out-shot the Senators, 13-9. Each team had seven corner kicks.
The Storm return to Slattery Field on Tuesday (Sept. 15) to take on
the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown at 4 p.m.
