COLUMBUS, Ohio (February 10, 2009) - Lake Erie College earned a
78-68 victory on the road against Ohio Dominican University Tuesday
night. It was the second meeting of the two teams this season and
the second win for the Storm, as the green and white were
victorious against the Panthers, 98-82 back in December. The two
teams could meet up often in the future with both institutions
recently being invited to apply for acceptance into the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Storm led for 39 of the 40 minutes in the contest, trailing
only after the Panthers scored on the opening tip. Lake
Erie shot 37-percent from the field in the the opening half in
order to take a 10-point advantage into the break at
30-20. Lake Erie continued to build a lead in the
second half, going ahead by as many as 16, but never letting
Ohio Dominican closer than eight.
Senior Derrick Thornton (University Heights Ohio/Lutheran East)
led all scorers with 19 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Senior Rick Leasure (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) had 13 points and
senior John Dickinson (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) had 10 points, two
assists and two steals.
Lake Erie (7-17) hosts Gannon on Monday at 7 p.m.
