PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie volleyball team dominated a
three-set sweep against the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots (25-8,
25-15, 26-24) on Tuesday (Nov. 3) evening at Athletic Center Arena.
The Storm (10-26) was in control throughout, allowing just eight
points in the first set to the Fighting Scots (2-32). In the first
set, the Storm pounded out 11 kills in 21 attacks with just one
error, while holding Ohio Valley to negative-.294 hitting (two
kills, seven errors, 17 attacks).
Lake Erie closed out from there, producing nine team blocks in
the match and hitting .258 as a team. All but one Storm player that
played in the match recorded at least one dig.
Freshman outside hitter Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame
Cathedral Latin) led the Storm with eight kills in 20 attacks. She
entered the match ranked 21st in the country with 0.59
aces per set and added nine more in Tuesday's match.
Senior outside hitter Erica Muniak (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) also
hit .300 in the match with seven kills. Sophomore middle hitter
Michelle Naab (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) hit .385 with
seven kills in 13 attacks with two errors.
Freshman middle hitter Nicole Kunar (Northfield Center,
Ohio/Nordonia) led the team with three block assists, while Naab
added two block solos.
Junior defensive specialist Lauren Johnson (Wellington,
Ohio/Keystone) paced the Storm with nine digs.
The Storm will wrap up the season on Saturday (Nov. 7) afternoon
with a 1 p.m. contest against West Liberty State. Lake Erie will
celebrate Senior Day on Saturday before the match.
