PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie women's soccer team won for the third time in four games on Monday (Oct. 5) with a 2-1 triumph over the University of Charleston at Slattery Field. The win improves the Storm (5-5-2) to the .500 mark this late in the season since the 2006-07 campaign. 

The Storm got on the board in the 35^th minute as freshman Jaimie Nelson (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas) found senior Lacey Eisenberg (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) in the middle of the box. Eisenberg drove the ball into the back of the net past Golden Eagles keeper Caitlyn Seader.

The game held at 1-0 into halftime, but just three minutes after the break, freshman Valerie Urbanik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) deposited a free kick from 24 yards into the top side of the net to give the Storm a 2-0 lead. It was Urbanik's third goal of the season.  

From there, it was a struggle for the Storm to hang on, especially after Taryn Conklin's goal in the 72^nd minute cut the lead in half. Lake Erie's back line and sophomore keeper Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) did not break.  

The Storm surrendered eight shots in the second half, while taking only three. The Eagles (1-9) out-shot the Storm, 17-7, in the game, but the Lake Erie defense, led by Giesen and senior sweeper Natalia Bartula (Oakville, Ont./Holy Trinity Catholic), stood its ground when it needed to.  

Lake Erie will take a week off before returning to Slattery Field when it hosts Lock Haven University next Monday (Oct. 12) at 1:30 p.m.
