PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie volleyball team won the final
three sets against Glenville State on Saturday (Oct. 31) afternoon
to earn its ninth win of the season, 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-20,
25-19). It was the first of two matches for the Storm on the
afternoon.
Freshman outside hitter Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame
Cathedral Latin) was outstanding in the match, notching 16 kills in
32 attempts with just three errors for a .406 hitting percentage.
She also totaled 11 digs, five block assists and six service aces.
She now has 68 aces this season.
The Storm (9-25) entered the week ranked 36th in
Division II in blocks per set and continued that trend on Saturday.
Lake Erie had just one block in the first set, but rejected 10
attacks in the final three sets.
The Storm hit .206 on the day as senior outside hitter Erica
Muniak (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) had a solid day hitting with 13 kills
in 37 attacks. Sophomore middle hitter Michelle Naab (North
Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) added five kills in 14 attacks and
did not have an error. She also had five block assists.
Sophomore middle hitter Jennifer Laureno (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Brush)
also had five block assists, one block solo and four kills.
Sophomore libero Brittany Raggets led the defense with 17 digs.
Muniak added 13 digs.
Sophomore setter Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, Ohio/North
Royalton) led the Storm with 21 assists, while sophomore Lauren
Bogatay (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) contributed 15 helpers.
Lauren Saelens led the Pioneers (10-20) with 14 kills and 13
digs.
The Storm plays later on Saturday (Oct. 31) against the Findlay
Oilers at Athletic Center Arena.
