PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Freshman Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame
Cathedral Latin) recorded nine kills and the Storm blocked seven
attacks, but it was not enough as Lake Erie fell to Ohio Dominican,
3-0 (16-25, 16-25, 17-25), on Saturday (Oct. 24) afternoon at
Athletic Center Arena.
The Storm took a 9-8 lead in the first set, but the Panthers put
away five straight points to roll to the first set win. Lake Erie
also scored the first four points in the second set, but Ohio
Dominican was able to tie it back up at 6-6 before going on to win
the set.
The Storm never led in the third set, but fought back from a
19-7 deficit and scored 10 of the next 15 points, before the
Panthers were able to finish the sweep.
Ohio Dominican used a balanced offensive attack to down the
Storm, as five players finished with at least six kills in the
match, while Cassie Schroeder and Elyse Mongillo split the assists.
Senior Erica Muniak (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) recorded 12 digs to
lead the back line defense. Krista O'Connor (North Royalton,
Ohio/North Royalton) and Brittany Raggets (Eastlake, Ohio/Villa
Angela-St. Joseph) notched 11 digs each.
Jennifer Laureno (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Brush) led the front-line
defense with one block solo and three block assists. The
Storm hit the road Tuesday (Oct. 27) for a match against Edinboro
before traveling to Walsh on Thursday (Oct. 29). Both matches begin
at 7 p.m.
