Box Score PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Trailing two games to one, the Lake Erie
College volleyball team battled back to force a fifth set, but
couldn't hold off Urbana University in a 3-2 loss on Friday night
(Oct. 2) at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness
Center Arena.
The Storm (6-14) led in the deciding set 12-10 but the Blue
Knights (9-10) closed out the match with a 5-1 run.
Lake Erie won the first set 25-20 and Urbana took the second by
that same score. The Knights went up 2-1 with a 29-27 win in
set three- a set in which Lake Erie led at one point 20-15- only to
have the Storm even things up with a 26-24 victory in set
four.
The Storm recorded some impressive numbers even in
defeat. Lake Erie posted a season-high 19 team blocks and also
had 57 kills and 82 digs.
Individually, Sophomore Bridget Beury (Amherst, Ohio/Steele) led
the attack with 14 kills and 11 digs. Senior Erica Muniak
(Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) added 12 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore
Brittany Raggets (Eastlake, Ohio/Villa Angela St. Joseph) had a
team-high 25 kills while classmates Krista O'Connor (North
Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) and Lauren Bogatay (Mentor,
Ohio/Mentor) had 27 and 25 assists, respectively.
Freshman Nicole Kunar (Northfield Center, Ohio/Nordonia) led the
defensive effort with nine blocks to go along with eight
kills.
Paula Lindsay led Urbana with 17 kills and 13 digs. Karla
Vogel had 43 assists and 14 digs.
The Storm will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when it
hosts a tri-match with Wilmington College and Davis and Elkins
College beginning at 1 p.m. in the Athletic Center Arena.
