Box Score PHILIPPI, W.V. - The Lake Erie men's soccer team put together
its best all-around performance of the season and scored four goals
in the second half on its way to a 5-1 win at Alderson-Broaddus on
Sunday (Oct. 18) afternoon.
Freshman forward Rob Searles (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral
Latin) connected on his first goal of the season in the 34th minute
off a Scott Stuckey (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon) assist to give the Storm
a 1-0 lead.
The Battlers (5-8) tied the game at 1-1 less than six minutes later
and the game remained tied into halftime.
Lake Erie (6-9-1), though, scored four times in the second half,
beginning with sweeper Jay Sutter's (Batavia, Ohio/Amelia) goal of
the season in the 57th minute off a Jacob Magdich (Oregon,
Ohio/Clay) assist.
Magdich scored the next two goals for Lake Erie, including one
assisted by fullback Justin Rraya (Parma, Ohio/Normandy) to give
the Storm a 4-1 lead. Magdich's goals were his first two of the
season.
Phillip Murphy (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) capped the scoring
with his second goal of the season off an assist from Anthony Belviso (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) in the 80th minute.
Lake Erie keeper Jared Daly (Hubbard, Ohio/Ursuline) made seven
saves for the Storm, which out-shot the Battlers, 18-15, in the
game.
Lake Erie is off until Sunday (Oct. 25) when it is on the road for
a 3:30 p.m. start at Urbana University as the second-half of a
twinbill with the women's team.
