PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie women's soccer team could not
equalize after Edinboro scored an early goal as the Fighting Scots
went on to win, 1-0, on Wednesday (Oct. 14) at Slattery Field.
Amanda Bartell scored the only goal of the game, just seven
minutes into the first half when she placed a shot into the right
side of net, coming off a run down the left side. Melissa Leszek
notched the assist for the Scots (5-4-5).
The Storm (6-6-2) did not have a shot in the first half as the
Scots won that battle, 12-0, in the first 45 minutes.
Lake Erie, though, played much more spirited soccer in the
second half, drawing a couple great chances that came up empty.
Early in the second half, Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North
Valley) had a header hit off the right post.
Later in the half, Lacey Eisenberg (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) had
a one-on-one chance near the net, but was unable to convert as
goalkeepers Samantha Cairns and Kate Stukbauer combined for the
clean sheet for Edinboro.
Lake Erie keeper Jaimie Nelson (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas)
stopped six shots in the match and faced 22 shots overall. Edinboro
also held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. T
he Storm will now hit the road for its next two matches at
Alderson-Broaddus on Sunday (Oct. 18) and at Malone on Tuesday
(Oct. 20).
