PAINESVILLE, OH - The Lake Erie College women's soccer team pulled out the close victory, 6-5 in non-conference action against Ursuline College Thursday afternoon.
Ursuline scored the first goal of the game just under seven minutes, only to have the Bethel connection tie the game at 19:07 on freshman Alyssa Bethel's (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) pass to sophomore Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley). The eldest Bethel returned the ball to back of the net two minutes later on an assist by freshman Emma Hoskins (Fairfield, Ohio/McAuley).
Ursuline then scored two more goals within a six-minute span to tie the game and take a 3-2 lead. The advantage didn't last long however, as junior Loni Sargent (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) scored on a pass from Angela Bethel only 20 seconds later, evening the game at three at the half.
In the second period, Ursuline scored at 60:27. Angela Bethel then scored two more times on assists from Hoskins and sophomore Kristen Cannon (Seven Hills, Ohio/Normandy). Ursuline tied the game with under three minutes to play in regulation, sending the game into overtime.
Angela Bethel scored her fifth goal of the day at 93:40 on an assist by Hoskins. Bethel earned her sixth hat trick of the season, ninth of her career, to help the Storm improve to 11-6-2 overall.
