Second Half Lifts Bluffton Over Storm

PAINESVILLE-Soccer is a game of capitalizing on your opportunities and on Saturday afternoon it was Bluffton College who made the most of their opportunities to knock off Lake Erie College and cash in a 2-0 victory in non-conference action.

With the loss, Lake Erie drops to 0-8 on the season, while Bluffton notched their first win of the season to up their mark to 1-4 on the year.

So far this season, neither the Storm nor Beavers had capitalized on many opportunities as Bluffton came into play without a goal on the season, while the Storm had cashed in just one goal this year. The two teams played a scoreless first half before Bluftton scored two goals in the second stanza to garner the victory.

Both of the Beaver's goals came from subs and it was Jill Domachowski who opened the scoring when she netted a goal off an April Leu pass at the 60-minute mark to give Bluffton a 1-0 lead. Emily Peter then delivered the backbreaker for the Beavers as her unassisted goal at the 71st minute gave Bluffton a 2-0 cushion, which was too much for the Storm to overcome.

Lake Erie keeper Jane Roberts made eight saves on the day, while Bluffton netminder Dayna Peiffer made three saves in picking up her first shut-out of the season. The Storm will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they will travel to La Roche College to open up their AMCC schedule against the Redhawks. That game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
