Courtney Orr is entering her first season as the head coach of the Storm softball program in 2027.
A former standout student-athlete at Fairmont State University, Orr’s own playing career helped shape the way she leads. During her time at Fairmont State, she was a four-year starter, earned NFCA First Team All-American and D2CCA First Team All-American honors, was named the 2016 Mountain East Conference Player of the Year, and finished as a top-three finalist for NFCA Division II National Player of the Year. She also holds multiple career and single-season records at Fairmont State.
Orr began her collegiate coaching career at Fairmont State, where she served as an assistant coach. During her three seasons on staff, she helped recruit and develop student-athletes while contributing to all aspects of the program, including player development, travel, camps, academics, budgeting, and daily operations. During her time on staff, the Falcons earned back-to-back Mountain East Conference Tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019, including the No. 3 seed in 2019 after finishing 26-23 overall and 20-12 in conference play. That season, Fairmont State recorded its most wins since 2014, ranked second in the conference defensively with a .971 fielding percentage, posted a 2.61 team ERA, and produced All-MEC and All-Region pitcher.
She later served as the inaugural Assistant Softball Coach at Hocking College, helping launch the program and build structure during its early stages. That experience gave Orr an early foundation in program building, roster development, recruiting, practice planning, and creating systems from the ground up.
Orr’s first head coaching opportunity came at Chatham University, where she led the Cougars during the 2023–24 academic year. In her lone season, she helped lead Chatham to double-digit wins, a conference sweep over Washington & Jefferson, two All-PAC honorees, and a First Team All-PAC selection. The Cougars also set single-game program records with 21 runs and 20 hits in a win over Franciscan. Orr helped reshape the roster through recruiting, bringing in the largest incoming class with 17 student-athletes.
Most recently, Orr served as the inaugural Head Softball Coach at Johnson & Wales University Charlotte from 2024 to 2026, where she led the launch of a first-year collegiate softball program. In the program’s inaugural season, the Wildcats produced 147 runs, 273 hits, 68 stolen bases, and a .298 team batting average. Johnson & Wales also earned early recognition in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference, producing the first C2C Player of the Week selection in school history and a First Team All-C2C freshman outfielder.
In addition to her college coaching background, Orr has spent years working in skill instruction and sports performance. Through roles with DBAT Baseball & Softball Training Facility and Redline Athletics, she has trained athletes from youth through the collegiate level. At Redline Athletics, she helped dozens of athletes continue their careers at the Division I, Division II, and Division III levels across sports such as rowing, equestrian, hockey, football, soccer, softball, and basketball. Her background in exercise science and strength and conditioning continues to shape how she develops athletes physically, mentally, and competitively.
Orr’s coaching philosophy centers on four core values: unity, ambition, empowerment, and integrity. She believes great programs are built through meaningful relationships, consistent standards, and a commitment to developing the whole student-athlete. Her goal is to prepare young women not only for success on the softball field, but for success in life.
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Orr also has strong ties to Northeast Ohio, having attended Walsh Jesuit High School while living in Stow. She is married to her husband, Sam, whom she met while attending Fairmont State University. Together, they have three huskies: Riggs, Rori, and Reggie.
Orr earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Master of Education in Exercise Physiology from Fairmont State University. She will also earn a Master of Business Administration in Organizational Leadership from Johnson & Wales University in August 2026.
