AJ Gengler - 2026

A.J. Gengler

AJ Gengler enters his second season as an assistant baseball coach at Lake Erie College for the 2026-27 athletic year.

Hired by head coach Shaine Carpenter in August 2025, Gengler serves a multifaceted role for the Storm, acting as first base coach, bullpen coordinator, and director of data collection and analytics on game days. His work both on the diamond and behind the scenes has quickly become a foundational asset to the program's player development blueprint.

A specialist in modern baseball technology, Gengler plays an instrumental role alongside associate head coach and pitching coach Brent McNeil. Gengler spearheads the program's advanced data operations, utilizing tech systems like Rapsodo and translating intricate Trackman metrics. By breaking down ball flight, spin dynamics, and pitcher release points, his analytical approach gives Lake Erie a highly competitive edge in scouting, daily player development, and modern recruiting.

Beyond analytics, Gengler manages the team's operational and administrative logistics. His responsibilities include organizing daily practice schedules, overseeing complex facility setups, and handling essential administrative routines to ensure seamless program operations. On the recruiting trail, he serves as a key coordinator for prospective student-athlete campus visits, building strong initial bridges to the Painesville campus.

Before arriving at Lake Erie, Gengler began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Bemidji State University. As a student-athlete for the NCAA Division II Beavers, the Mukwonago, Wisconsin native proved to be a powerful asset out of the bullpen. Across 13 career relief appearances, the strikeout specialist averaged a fierce 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings before transitioning directly into the coaching ranks.
