2011: Appeared in nine contests as a junior, including eight starts... posted a 2-2 record with 7.59 ERA, tossing 32 innings... earned first win of the season with six innings of two-run (one earned) ball at Charleston on 3/23 (W,6-2)... allowed just two earned runs in five innings of a 5-3 victory at Hillsdale on 4/3. Struck out a season-high four and walked just one in that contest... led team with three pickoffs.  

2010: Made eight appearances including seven starts... went 1-3 with a with a 9.32 ERA in 37.2 innings... struck out 20 batters and won 19... picked up hisonly win in a complete game against Gannon, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out threein seven innings.

2009: Pitched in 13 games as a freshman, making eight starts... posted a 1-6 record and 10.06 ERA in 36 2/3 innings... earned his first collegiate victory in relief vs. Urbana on 4/25... allowing one run on two hits in two innings... allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings with three strikeouts vs. Mansfield on 3/31 in longest outing of season.

PRIOR TO LAKE ERIE: Pitched four years at Hubbard High School... earned all-Trumbull Athletic Conference honors as a senior... played on two TAC-8 championship teams... threw a no-hitter during his junior season.

PERSONAL: Born Oct. 16, 1989... majoring in adolescent/young adult education... parents are Mike and Judy Backes.
