Cameron Castro, a 2012 graduate of Lake Erie, is now in his third season after taking the helm of the Storm baseball program in August of 2016.
The 2018-2019 season will be Castro’s ninth year in coaching at various levels and his seventh year in the collegiate ranks. He came to Lake Erie by way of Division-II Augustana University in South Dakota. Prior to that Castro worked as a trainer at Driveline Baseball in Seattle, Wash. Driveline is an advanced pitching research company and is the foremost authority on data-driven baseball development.
In two seasons at Lake Erie, Castro's teams have broke the school record for strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings in both years as well as posted the second-most hits for any team in program history. The Storm has also had top five finishes in batting average and on-base percentage.
The Storm have notched five all-conference selections in two years, including two-time winner Wes Birchmeier who broke the school record for doubles with 19 in 2017.
Castro has also built a program that has been nationally recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Assocation (ABCA) for his adoption and infusion of technology and received the Technology in Baseball Award from Diamond Kinetics in 2018.
From 2012 to 2016 Castro was a key member of the Defiance College baseball coaching staff. Castro worked primarily with the Yellow Jacket pitching staff and was integral to recruiting and administrative efforts as well as fundraising. During his time there, Castro helped guide Defiance to its third-highest win total in its history and best finish ever in the conference.
In the summers of 2014 and 2015, Castro was with the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League where he served as the team's first base and bullpen coach. During two seasons, he was a part of a team that won over 80 games and captured a NWL World Series title. In the summer of 2015, Castro coached former Lake Erie standout and 7th round draft pick Luke Raley.
The Lorain native graduated from Lake Erie College with a degree in legal studies and later completed his master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in sport management at Defiance in the spring of 2014.
