WEST LIBERTY, West Virginia -- The #15 Lake Erie wrestling team traveled to face the #10 West Liberty University Hilltoppers tonight to wrap up their 2024-25 regular season. The Storm had a few close matches but were unable to overcome the Hilltoppers, falling 27-11 on the road.
The Storm began the dual by narrowly dropping two tough matchups.
Braden Hahlen began the day with a contest against #8 Logan Davis. Hahlen put up a gritty fight but fell just short by 4-2 decision. Next,
Anthony Sagaris and James Armstrong Jr. went at it at 133 and had a similar result, with Sagaris falling 8-6.
At 141, it was #2
Christian Small's turn. He and Khyvon Grace had a very exciting battle that ended in a 7-6 tiebreaker in favor of Small, giving the Storm three points and cutting into the Hilltopper's early lead.
Austin Feitz was up next at 149 but was unable to overcome his opponent, falling 6-1. He was soon avenged though by
Matthew Kaufmann at 157 who had a great 4-2 win to bring the Storm deficit to just 9-6.
#4
Jack Haskin would give the Storm a 11-9 lead with a completely dominate 19-3 win over Breagan Pearson but unfortunately for the Storm, these were the last points they scored as they dropped their next four matches.
Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will be back in action on Saturday, March 1st for the NCAA DII Super Regional in Tiffin, Ohio.
