Storm Drop Back-to-Back Non-Conference Games With Loss to Glenville State

GLENVILLE, West Virginia – The Lake Erie women's soccer team took to the road today to compete against the Glenville State Pioneers and suffered a second-straight shutout, falling 2-0.

Game Recap
Glenville State held control of the tempo early on, managing to outshoot the Storm 4-1 in the first 24 minutes of play. In the 27th minute, the Pioneers tacked on the first goal of the game. As time expired in the half, Glenville State's Graylin Floyd scored her second goal of the game, sending the Storm into the locker room with a 2-0 deficit. The Lake Erie defense bent but didn't break in the second half but unfortunately, the offense was held in check resulting in a final score of 2-0.

The Pioneers outshot the Storm 15-6 (7-3 SOG) with junior Leonie Witt accounting for three shots with two on-goal and Alyvia Sanom accounting for two with one on-goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Vanmeter recorded five saves despite allowing both goals.

The Matchup
For back-to-back years, the two teams faced off in an early season matchup. In last year's meeting, the Storm jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second half after a scoreless first half but would surrender two goals in a ten-minute span to end the game at a 2-2 tie. Today's loss brings the all-time record between the two teams at 1-1-1.

Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will host their home opener on Saturday, September 14th at 7:30 p.m. against the D'Youville University Saints before starting conference play on the road against the Ursuline College Arrows on Thursday, September 19th.
