Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second-Half Surge by Thomas More Hands Women's Soccer Another Loss

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's soccer team hosted Thomas More on Saturday, suffering their most lopsided defeat of the season, losing 5-1. The Storm now sit at a 1-8-1 record on the year.

Game Recap

The Storm began the game with great level of intensity and aggressiveness, as attackers placed a great deal of pressure on Saint defenders, signifying the game would be played on their terms. The Saint's defense proved incredibly stout, and despite Lake Erie finding themselves deep into enemy territory, very few shot attempts could be made. After the dust settled and the hard-fought first period came to a close, the scoreboard read 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

The second period would be an absolute offensive barrage from Thomas More, as they scored four goals in a 20-minute period, seizing total control and never looking back.

In the 72nd minute, Leonie Witt took out her do-it-yourself kit for the Storm, as she scored her fourth goal of the year, placing herself among only 10 other G-MAC players to reach such a mark thus far. While the shot itself was a thing of beauty, her possession leading up was even more impressive, and she really broadcast her whole toolbox of footwork, touch, agility, and precision. While the scoreboard certainly wasn't in the Storm's favor, the undisputed, most-impressive play of the day certainly went to Witt.

 The Matchup

Following Saturday's loss, Thomas More claims a 4-0 all-time edge over the Storm in the school's matchups to date.

Looking Ahead

The Storm are home once again on Tuesday, October 15th at 1pm, as they welcome the California (PA.) Vulcans. This will be the first ever matchup between the teams. The Vulcans enter Tuesday win-less in their previous five games, losing four and tying one. Their tie, however, came against the #2-ranked team in DII, the Gannon Golden Knights. From a difficult schedule, California (PA.) has emerged with a record of 3-6-2 and will be a good test for the Storm. Hopefully Lake Erie can mustered out their second non-conference victory of the season before the remainder of the schedule turns back to G-MAC competition.
