PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie softball team closes in on their regular season games, after hosting the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans for a conference doubleheader. The Storm split the day with the Trojans after securing the second game 2-1. They advance to a 4-18 conference record and are 9-29 overall.
GAME ONE
Sophomore Emma Spahr started on the mound for the Storm, throwing one strikeout. Senior Grace Hammer took over in the fourth inning, and threw five strikeouts.
The first four innings were scoreless for both teams. The Trojans were able to score a run in the fifth off of a Storm error. The Storm could not match the run, as the Trojans scored again in the sixth. Lake Erie could not find a hit throughout the game, and Trevecca took the 2-0 win.
GAME TWO
Junior Bridget Mullholand pitched for the Storm's second game of the day. Mullholand threw two strikeouts in the three innings pitched. Senior Carly Rowland stepped in to pitch in the fourth inning. Rowland threw three strikeouts.
Game two remained scoreless on both sides, until the Storm broke the silence in the third inning. Sophomore Arianna Tammaro singled to the right side to send Spahr home for the Storm's first run of the day. Lake Erie kept it going in the fourth, with a single from Rowland to send junior Jordyn Hawkins home, who pinch ran for freshman Lillian Campbell. The Storm held a 2-0 lead over the Trojans going into the fifth. Trevecca combated the Storm with a run in the sixth, but could not send another home. Lake Erie took the 2-1 win to split the day.
The Storm are scheduled to host the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers for their final matchup of the regular season on Saturday, March 29th. The conference doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 PM.
