MENTOR, Ohio — The Lake Erie softball team played at Mentor High School as the host team to the Ohio Dominican Panthers for another conference doubleheader. The scores for both games were close, but the Panthers took game one and two. The Storm move to a 1-7 conference record, and are 6-18 overall.
GAME 1
The first game was scoreless for both teams, until the 7th inning when the Panthers were able to score off a triple to right center. The game ended in a 1-0 win for Ohio Dominican. Sophomore Jasmine Gonzalez recorded two hits for the game.
Senior Carly Rowland pitched all seven innings for the Storm, throwing eight strikeouts. Rowland achieved her season high of eight strikeouts, close to her career high of nine.
GAME 2
Both teams pushed until the sixth without a run, until the bottom when the Storm took the lead. Freshman Lillian Campbell doubled through the right side to send sophomore Arianna Tammaro home for an RBI and a run on the board. Going into the seventh, the Panthers were able to tie it up with a single. Ohio Dominican's run was enough to hold the tie game and force extra innings. The Panthers were able to score again, to take a 2-1 lead in the ninth. The Storm did not find an answer, with the final score 2-1 Ohio Dominican.
Senior Grace Hammer was on the mound for the second game, throwing nine strikeouts. Hammer now has 102 strikeouts for the year.
The Storm head to Ashland University for their next conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 4th starting at at 3:00 PM.
