TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Storm wrestling program traveled on the road Saturday, January 14 to compete in the Regional Duals. The Storm would go 2-1 on the day, defeating Bluefield State and Notre Dame College while falling to #24 Ashland.
vs #24 ASHLAND
The Storm battled incredibly hard against their G-MAC foes, winning five of their eight matchups and giving themselves a 21-11 lead. Unfortunately, they had to forfeit the final two matchups, costing them 12 points, and giving Ashland the victory 23-21.
Ryan Wehner (133), Christian Small (141), Austin Fietz (149), James Penfold (174), and Brady O'Connor (157) would earn victories for Lake Erie with Small and Penfold winning by fall.
vs BLUEFIELD STATE
After their disappointing loss to Ashland, the Storm would come back in a major way by taking on Bluefield State and winning every single matchup they competed in, with their only loss coming by way of forfeit. Lake Erie would also win four matches due to Bluefield State forfeits. Jacob Johnson (125), Ryan Wehner (133), Austin Fietz (149), Brady O'Connor (157), and James Penfold (174) would earn the victories for the Storm with each one coming by way of fall.
vs NOTRE DAME COLLEGE
The final competition of the day for the Storm was one filled with forfeits on both sides. Each side would forfeit three matches, leaving just four competitions. Out of those four, Lake Erie would win three of them with the victories coming from Ryan Wehner (133), Austin Fietz (149) and James Penfold (174) with Wehner's coming by fall.
The Storm will be back in action on January 21st as they travel to Ashland University to compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.
