PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The #19 Storm wrestling program held their home opener Friday, January 6 to face the visiting Cleveland State Vikings in their 'Pin Leukemia' event for assistant coach Andrew Bearden. The Storm would fall to the Vikings by a score of 36-9.
It was not an eventful night for Lake Erie as they failed to keep up with the Vikings for most of the night. They would suffer and early 11-0 deficit after the first two matches but Christian Small (141) and Austin Fietz (149) would take the next two for the Storm, trimming the deficit to 11-9.
Unfortunately, that would be all the points the Storm would be able yto muster as they lost four of their remaining matches and forfeited two.
The Storm will be back in action on January 8th as they compete in their first conference dual meet of the year on the road against Tiffin at 3:00 PM.
